Lamar CISD Dedicates Lindsey Elementary

Jordan Ranch families had an opportunity to learn more about the woman their new elementary school is named after at a dedication ceremony held Dec. 6.

Lamar Consolidated Independent School District dedicated its 24th elementary school —the first with a Katy address — to Kathleen Joerger Lindsey a woman who committed her life to education and the community she loved.

Lindsey was valedictorian of the Class of 1932 at Rosenberg High School. She went on to graduate from the University of Texas and the UT Law School, where she was one of only three women in a class of 300 students. She is believed to be the first woman attorney in Fort Bend County.

Her efforts helped found the Fort Bend Public Library System, and she was instrumental in bringing the Richmond State School to Fort Bend County.

The 92,324-square-foot Lindsey Elementary opened in August and can accommodate up to 750 Lindsey Lions. It houses 38 classrooms, a library, science room, computer lab, art room with patio, music room, life skills center, special education resource room and a gymnasium.

Jordan Ranch students attend Lindsey Elementary before moving on to Leaman Junior High and Fulshear High School. Both of those state-of-the-art campuses opened in 2016.
